BDMLR Seal Appeal on BBC National News

You may have seen a recent report on BBC national news about the number of seal pups that our volunteers are rescuing this winter season.  All around the country, grey seal pups are falling foul of the bad weather and those that aren't already in good shape are struggling to survive. If you missed it then you can see it here.

Last year was our busiest ever across the UK and our volunteers responded to over 850 calls from the public about seals.  The South West and Wales have been particularly badly hit this winter as well as the North East, Yorkshire, East Anglia, Kent and Scotland, where numbers of rescues have been building up. On the East coast, where the harbour seals pup in the Summer and Autumn there was little rest for our dedicated volunteers. Whilst not all of these alerts resulted in a rescue being necessary, the greater majority were checked out, with many seals being assessed and if necessary taken to vets for initial treatment and also to rehabilitation facilities around the UK.

Because of the interest generated by the BBC feature we've set up a Seal Appeal on JustGiving for people who would like to help. Please feel free to share the link and of course make a donation yourself if you can. Seal Appeal can be found at

We always need funds to replace or repair rescue equipment, cover vets bills and other expenses for some of our volunteers who need them.  Donations will be greatly appreciated and if UK tax payers complete the Gift Aid section, the government will give us an extra 25% on top, without costing the donor any more. You can also donate via your mobile phone - for a £5 donation please text SEAL18 £5 to 70070 to make a difference today.

Alternatively, you might like to donate something directly from our Amazon wishlist by clicking here. Items purchased will go directly to Cornwall where they are needed by our volunteers who are caring for seal pups until space becomes available in the rehabilitation centres.

Many thanks for your continued support and plase don't forget to visit us regularly at and on Facebook at
