Pilot whales strand in Fife

This morning, British Divers Marine Life Rescue were called by a member of public who reported that five whales were stranded in shallow water near Culross, Fife.

The charity alerted its local volunteers and requested assistance from the MCA (coastguard). The animals were identified as long-finned pilot whales and they were able to refloat themselves on the rising tide despite a couple of them having been upside-down.

Four of the five animals swam off across the water towards the south side of the Forth and have not been seen since, with another remaining in the bay.  BDMLR are on the look out for any animals in the area and would appreciate any sightings being reported to them on 01825 765546.

Please note that BDMLR does not have any quality photographs of the whales to supply to media.
