Felixstowe Seal Pup Rescue January 2020

On Saturday 4th January we were notified by a member of public, of a female grey seal pup at Felixstowe. The seal was on its own on a very public beach, with lots of people and dogs all around. She was a good size but still had a long white fur coat (lanugo), indicating that she was probably only 1-2 weeks old and not yet weaned.
On closer inspection she was found to have some nasty injuries on her rear flipper and a visibly sore mouth. Under these circumstances we needed to pick her up for treatment and for ongoing rehabilitation to see her through to a point where she can be released back into the wild.
After an overnight stay in Ipswich with our Suffolk area coordinator, where the pup was given fluids and a safe place to rest, she was transported to RSPCA - Mallydams Wood in East Sussex where she will receive ongoing treatment. 🙏
