300 mile trip for seal call-out

Seal pup and dead sealFriday night saw myself and medic Adrian Hawthorn attend a seal call-out at Treffin Mill near Fishguard over 300 miles from where I'm based at Uckfield in East Sussex. Luckily Adrian and I were just arriving at our B&B for the following days medic course at Fishguard when the call came in and we were actually only 10 mile away.

The caller was concerned after seeing a dead seal on the beach next to a white coat grey seal pup. When we arrived on site the caller was pleased to report that another seal had come ashore and he had seen the pup suckling from its real mum. We viewed the seal from the cliff top as access via the beach was impossible. There was an adult dead seal about 10ft away from the pup which had clearly been dead for a while, but the real mum was clearly in the sea and keeping a good eye on her pup. The pup was nice and rounded and healthy waving at us from the beach!
