North Cornwall Seal Pup Rescue

Cornwall Area Co-ordinator, Dave Jarvis, was contacted by the National Seal Sanctuary at 11.00 hrs and was advised that a seal pup had been reported to the at Wansum Beach, near Bude. The pup was apparently being monitored by staff from the nearby Adult Education Centre, who described it as being a large whitecoat.

Later in the afternoon as it began to get dark, the pup was still there, so Assistant Coordinator Michelle Robinson attended to check that the pup was okay and to see if the mother had returned. Upon arrival, the pup was still alone on the beach, so due to this, it was decided that the pup should be rescued, which Michelle managed to do in the dark with the help of a couple of members of the public, and then relayed it to a member of the Animal Care Team from the National Seal Sanctuary at St Kew to take in for rehabilitation.
