Cullen Grey Seal Pup

Seal pupBDMLR HQ received a call from Mark Bennion a member of the public who had spotted a small seal pup on the beach and was quite concerned about its welfare. Mark had also made calls to SSPCA and WDCS. Unfortunately, our nearest medic was unable to attend due to her car being in use. I believe the pup was checked by an Inspector who thought that the animal was fine. Mark was able to send me some pictures via email which I passed on to our Vet Consultants Darryl Thorpe and James Barnett. Both advised that the seal pup was underweight and had a wound at the top of it's flipper/chest area and needed to be brought in.

Andy Ireland the local Coordinator was informed, he was on the way to a meeting but his medic's Stacey, Hollie, Martin and Michelle were able to attend. It was around 18.30 dark and cold when the medic's set off, with the help of Mark the medic's were able to locate the pup quickly and took the pup straight to The Grampian Wildlife Centre for treatment. The pup was safely dropped off at 21.30. I can report that the pup had several wounds on it and is now doing really well.

Our thanks go to Mark Bennion, Medics Stacey, Hollie, Martin and Michelle for their quick response and to Lawrence at the Grampian Wildlife Centre for taking such good care of the pup.
