Underweight Pup Rescued From Godrevy

Underweight seal pupAt 14.00 a message was received from the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek to advise that they had received a call from a member of the public who was observing a pup at close quarters, due to the presence of a large number of tourists, at Godrevy. As the location was on a couple of miles from his home, Area Co-ordinator Dave Jarvis was soon on the scene and found an obviously malnourished pup, being looked after by local resident and his son. Having ascertained its weight as 17kg, it was quickly decided to remove the animal to a better location to carry out an assessment. Therefore it was uplifted taken to Area Co-ordinator Tim Bain, where it discovered to have a temperature of 39 degrees and wounds to the flippers. The wounds were cleaned and the pup was tube fed and then transported to RSPCA West Hatch, with the assistance of Area Co-ordinator Faye Archell, on her first 'sortie' since arriving in the Duchy, and Assistant Area Co-ordinator Dave McDonald.
