Juvenile Grey Seal in Buchan

Juvenile sealLate on Thursday evening Andy Ireland local Area Coordinator received a call about seal that has a problem with it's neck. Andy and the team went to investigate and found the seal which did have a problem with what looked like alopecia. It was also underweight was wheezing and rasping and had several superficial wounds to it's body. Andrew contacted Vet Consultant James Barnett with all the details and it was decided to uplift the seal and take it in to SSPCA Middlebank Wildlife Centre. Karen who was on call spoke to Colin at Middlebank who was happy to help and would wait for us to arrive, so a relay was organised with medics who arrived at SSPCA Middlebank at 2am.

The seal has been checked over by the SSPCA Vet and has been put out in to the open pool where he will be monitored over the next few days. The seal has a heavy worm burden and it's weight is 22.6kg.

Our special thanks go to Andy Ireland, Stacey Esson, Angie Long, Colin McFadyen, Heather Greig, Stewart Burns, Karen Kirk and Colin at SSPCA Middlebank.
