North Uist Successful Refloat

Earlier in the day, 3 adult dolphins were found stranded and 2 youngsters were spotted free swimming. Some of the dolphins had suffered minor injuries as a result of stranding.

Stranded dolphinBDMLR are congratulating BDMLR Marine Mammal Medic Martin Vaci, as well as the local Fire Brigade, local residents and the SSPCA, for a successful refloatation of three White Beaked Dolphins at Grimsay, North Uist today.

Working on the main land is difficult but having to work with poor mobile phone signals and limited access to resources on the island was nothing short of amazing.

Numerous pictures were take to help BDMLR's Senior Veterinary Consultant James Barnett help advise with the situation.

All the dolphins have been refloated and although one was thought to have restranded it was just in shallow water and swan off. BDMLR hopes that the adults and youngsters have been reunited and were just caught out by a quick out going tide and by the geography of the bay.

Well done all involved.
