Emaciated Harpour Porpoise, Westgate Kent

Emaciated harbour porpoiseA badly emaciated harbour porpoise became stranded on Westgate Beach at 1.30pm. Medics attended on site along with members of the Animal Rescue Team from Faversham Fire Station.

The porpoise had unfortunately been refloated several times by members of the public, making it difficult for medics to gain control of the porpoise. Medics waded out and were able to gain control of the porpoise before holding it in the water waiting for a vet to arrive. The Fire Brigade started erecting a pool to hold to porpoise in safely but unfortunately the porpoise passed away.

Photo of the animal clearly shows a visible neck line and concave lumber muscle and at just 90cm in length it was a neonate porpoise.
