A fantastic day of fundraising in Filey!

A number of medics took part in the Filey Town Council Summer Safety Event on Sunday 2nd August at Filey Country Car park. As part of the Yorkshire team, we have been thinking of new ways to raise money for BDMLR, and as this event was only an information stand, we needed to think of something else to help bring in the public. I decided after discussing with some other medics, to have a go at running a tombola. I collected lots of 'unwanted' Christmas presents from various members of my family and a few chocolate prizes, and I also made a few laminate signs to help us advertise. The only downside to this tombola was that collecting that many prizes, meant that I had to use the whole book of tickets, so I had to fold 500 tickets for the drum!

After setting up the information stand with BDMLR merchandise and the tombola, we were ready for business! I just couldn't believe the amount of people that were queuing for the tombola, it was brilliant to see. It didn't even let up for any part of the day, until all the prizes were gone. The tombola raised £82.65 in the end, and we managed to sell £52.30 of merchandise too. So a very successful day of fundraising with a total of £134.95 raised, a very good target to try and beat on the next fundraiser! Maybe we should try to include some baking on the next one, which went down really well at the Filey Lifeboat day last year.

I would like to say a big thank you to, Bev, Simon, Ryan, Bruce and Dave who all helped to set up and man the stand throughout the day. And of course a big thanks to our main attraction for the day Roxy (Bev and Simon's new puppy), who helped to bring in the crowds too. I would also like to thank my family and Vicky for the last minute tombola prizes (much appreciated!). A massive thank you to the staff from Filey Town Council who invited along, and who were well organised for the event and extremely helpful throughout the day. And an extra big thank you to Dave who created and donated some fantastic extra merchandise. It was a fantastic day, and I look forward to fundraising there again next year.
