Family Fun Day in Egremont

On Saturday the 24 July the Cumbria trailer together with a gazebo were set up on the Falcon Club sports ground. There was dancing, cheer leading, sports competitions and a police dog display team plus a bouncy castle and a huge inflatable slide.

We took along our seal and vari-kennel for seal rescue demonstrations. There were laminated photos of various rescues and we had been asked to do story telling for the younger children. Kara Milenkovic, medic and teacher, excelled at this and sat on the grass surrounded by small groups of children. John Smallman and Rob Watkins demonstrated the equipment in the trailer and showed how to capture a seal. Lots of children had their photos taken holding the seal or capturing the seal and lots of fluffy seals were sold with the white ones being the most popular before they sold out.

The stall was set up in the gazebo and the 'fluffies' were sold together with key rings, fridge magnets and some donated 'springies'. Lots of interest was shown and questions asked. This fun day was well attended by families with mainly younger children and the sun shone, which always helps.

We were interviewed and photographed by our local newsletter and at the end of a wonderful day we had raised £62.48 from sales and a further £13.55 from donations.

Grateful thanks go to Gary and Ashley, two of our sons, for setting up the gazebo and carrying equipment and John and Kara who gave up their time only a week before their wedding to spend the day on our stand.

This is the first fun day organised by the Falcon club manager and her staff and I would like to say a big thank you to all of them for inviting us and for the support, which they give to BDMLR. Our next medic course is being held there in November.
