Bournemouth Whale Washes up Dead

The Northern Bottlenose Whale off the Dorset coastline has unfortunately washed up dead on the beach at Bournemouth. Local Medic Jenny O'Connor confirmed that the whale was the Northern Bottlenose which has not been seen since Friday evening. Jenny along with the local council, coastguard and police secured the area last night and Paul Jepson ZSL was informed. ZSL are currently on site working with the local authority to examine the animal and find the cause of death.

Last night BDMLR were informed by the local Coastguard that a vessell had also see the whale at least a hour before stranding, dead and caught in nest about half a mile off shore.

5pm Update: Initial report from Rob Deville ZSL: Female juvenile whale. It has not been feeding for several weeks at least. There are sharp net marks on the beak and tail but at the moment further checks need to be made to see if this is pre or post mortem.
