Mevagissey Pup

I was called by Dave Jarvis about 17.20 about a pup which had been uplifted by 2 MOPs Annie and Kevin, from the slipway near the Sharkfin Pub in Mevagissy near St Austell, Cornwall. They took it in a blanket into the pub where it was collected by medics Christie Flowers and Claire Venner. I arranged to meet her in the Argos carpark just off the A38 in Liskeard. They arrived at about 18.25 and it was immediately obvious this was a very sick pup. It was very quiet when lifted out of their box and easy to examine- there was a 2-3cm diameter wound on the LF flipper and the RH flipper was swollen with a 1cm diameter wound- I suspect there may be a fracture here. Both wounds looked a few days old. Its breathing rate was 25/2 minutes and regular and ruckly. No nasal or eye discharges. I tubed it and gave 250ml of Lectade LA then set off for the RSPCA at West Hatch Somerset. Luckily the M5 was quiet so I made good time and arrived about 20.15 to hand the pup over to Shawn Clements. The pup's temperature was 37.8C. Wt 19kg Sean and I both agreed the outlook for this pup was not good.

Thanks to Annie and Kevin for "rescuing" the pup, to Christie and Claire for transporting it to Liskeard and to Shawn and all the team at West Hatch.
