Midnight Seal Pup Check

Seal pupWe received a call from Emma (out of hours coordinator) on Sunday 30th May at 9.30pm. It was a very stormy night and a member of the public reported a seal pup as possibly injured and unresponsive laying at the bottom of the lighthouse.

No one else was available to go and despite the geographical distance from our area Tanja rang Joel and myself stating her readiness to go.

We arrived at Flamborough Head approximately at 11pm. It was dark and stormy. Tanja, Graham and Alex went down a long set of stairs, Joel Lucy and I went to the North Landing beach.

Tanja found the seal pup and despite the weather we were all relieved to see that the now named 'Cliff' was in good weight,he had few superficial grazes on a rear flipper and he was trying to get a good night sleep.

We updated the member of the public about our assessment and the following day she texted us that Cliff had left the beach probably gone fishing with the early morning tide.

A good end to an interesting night!!!

Many thanks to all involved.
