Leap Year Seal in Margate

Margate SealBDMLR was called out to a seal on the evening of February 29th to Neyland Rock, Margate. We found this rather lethargic seal on the slip way and had to wait for the tide to go out before we could safely effect a rescue.

Once the tide had ebbed Steve Green, Suzi Hooper, Tamsin Tylier and I got stuck in, assisted by the guys from Margate Coastguard.Margate Seal in crate

Once contained we found it had an infected left eye, damaged rear flippers, damage to the left front flipper and various punture wounds. It was transported to RSPCA Mallydams Wildlife Hospital at Fairlight by Tina from the RSPCA.
A great joint effort by all involved and thanks are due to them.
