Puffing puffin rescued!

PuffinToday, Carol, wife of BDMLR medic Dave Wilson, received a call from a vet who had been contacted by Louise from the P&O office in Teesport. They had picked up a tired bird from the Tees and placed it in safely a box with airholes.  The RSPCA had advised her to contact a vet as they wouldn't attend themselves.

Although they weren't sure, when the photo came through it was obvious that it was a puffin.  BDMLR medic Jen Taylor from Redcar collected it and took it to a local vet for a checkover. Hopefully, following a rest, it will be returned back to the wild soon.

It may be that this puffin was blown in during recent storms, either from the breeding grounds at Flamborough Head or the Farne Islands.

Not a common rescue for us, but of course we're willing to help out.
